After the recent outburst of anger against china, some developers took this opportunity to develop solutions that can help reduce your dependence on Chinese products. Also, Indian intelligence agencies already warned us over the use of 52 Chinese apps, over concerns of data collection and misuse of data.
After the recent success of ‘Remove China Apps’ (which was later removed from the Play Store due to policy violation), an app named ‘Made In India’ surfaces on the Play Store. This app lets you scan the barcode of a product and will show results based on that, whether that product is made in India or not.
“Scan the product barcode now to find out the origin country of your product. This free application provides an opportunity for those who wish to support and promote local products.” – reads the ‘Made In India’ app about section page.
The app is available in English and Hindi language options and has a clean and simple user interface.
I tried scanning the barcode of a Poco X2 made in India, and the app detected that it is originated from China. So, basically, after reading a barcode, this app will tell you where the product is originated from.
Later I tried scanning some more products, but this time with a few different of them. I scanned a Camlin notebook, Dettol hand sanitiser, and a Classmate geometry box. The results were shown all the time accurately. If the app detects an Indian product, it displays a congratulation message.
After the rise of the Boycott Chinese Products movement, this app will be of great use to those who want to contribute to the movement and help them switch to Indian products.
