Google removed Paytm from Play Store over policy violations

Paytm an Indian financial services app has been pulled down from the Play Store by Google for violating its policies. Paytm is India’s biggest E-wallet app and has around 50 Million monthly active users.

Google said they don’t allow online casinos/support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting.

It includes if the app leads consumers to an external website that will enable them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money/cash prizes.

This development comes as a shocker for many users as it has reached a day before The Indian Premier League(IPL), the world’s biggest cricket tournament, is scheduled to kick off.

IPL attracts millions of users to Paytm for payments to participate in online sports betting/fantasy sports platforms like DREAM 11, which has an exclusive association with Paytm.

Google said it had notified Paytm developers a few days back and continues to be in touch with them to bring the app back on Play Store.
