Roblox back after three days, says outage was not due to the Chipotle event

The popular online platform and storefront for games Roblox is finally back online after a three-day outage. Developed by the Roblox Corporation, the company said they are bringing back the platform slowly.

With the outage starting Thursday evening, players were unable to play games on Roblox till late Sunday. Some players said that the outage coincided with the launch of the Chipotle event, where they were giving away $1 million worth of free burritos.

When asked about the same, a Roblox Corporation spokesperson said that the outage was because of

involved growth in the number of servers in our datacenters and was not due to any peak in external traffic or any particular experience.

The Roblox Corporation founder and CEO said that they would “publish a post-mortem soon” and work on fixing issues that led to the three-day-long outage. In his blog, he added,

To the best of our knowledge, there has been no loss of player persistence data, and your Roblox experience should now be fully back to normal,” Baszucki wrote. “We are grateful for the patience and support of our players, developers, and partners during this time.

Servers coming back online

It seems that the company is slowly bringing back servers, so it may be a while before the server in your region is up and running. Roblox Corporation also said that they had identified what caused the outage and said they were working on a solution. However, they did not share any details about the same.

It is one of the most popular online platforms with 43 million daily active users, most of whom are under 13. Roblox generated total revenue of more than 924 million last year, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic that locked people down in their homes.
