Instagram subscriptions feature might allow users to support creators

Instagram has been testing out a new feature called subscriptions, similar to what OnlyFans and Patreon offer.

According to a report by TechCrunch, the iOS app was recently updated with a new in-app purchase. This might mean that users will soon need to subscribe if they want to watch stories and other content.

The listing further reveals that the price for Instagram subscriptions might be somewhere between $0.99 to $4.99. The analytics firm Sensor Tower says that they added the $4.99 option on November 1, whereas the $0.99 listing was added on November 3.

That being said, Instagram is yet to say anything about the new subscriptions feature. But it clearly looks like Meta is trying to monetize the platform and incentivize creators to make more content.

Maybe Instagram is trying to lure content creators from TikTok and other similar platforms to make it more appealing after a whistleblower recently revealed how Instagram is bad for teens.
